Sky River

River-fed,
Noah’s misty, despairing eyes bled
He drank of the insight of God
Drank from the river of paradise,
Drank from the river of mighty disparity
River of a crystallized promise,
River of hope captured in organic glass
River of color that colonized the promise
of no more murder from Nineveh to New York

Leprechauns are certain not to be at the edge
(of homo superior it was said)
“We have no hope! Look at who our fathers are!”
Then they began to kill
They began to enact the spirits of war
The survivors became like crowned snowfall,
Became the certainty of those who are blessed
So with broken teeth and cloven tongues
Into east and west domains the demons fled

In midst of the overarching draconic waste
The center of nowhere was heard in canticles of ancient rime
And every military official was a tower of Jericho
Upon the soiled earth
The Catholics left one standing stone in Ireland
to carve a starbound home
(His name was William Butler Yeats
the poem was “The Second Coming”)
Heavens synaptic nerve shut
like dopamine, toward acidic arrogance

And on the reverse of Caesar’s coin is inscribed:
“Every major world event happens twice”
Thus carried on a wistful breeze
the thought of death lingered,
then let those thoughts in effort either drown
or burn.
